About Our School
A Fully Accredited School
Colonial Heights Middle School is a fully accredited school.
Colonial Heights Middle School is the sole middle school serving this community of 18,000 located approximately twenty miles south of the state capital, Richmond, Virginia. The building serves a sixth, seventh and eighth grade population of just over 600 students.
Our renovated facility offers up-to-date technology in a modernized, aesthetically pleasing and comfortable environment. Throughout the building are well-lit, suitable classrooms, a gymnasium, a full-size auditorium, a media center, facilities for band, a beautiful cafeteria, a comprehensive tech ed. lab, a clinic and a work/family studies suite.
In addition to teachers, the professional staff includes two full-time administrators, two full-time guidance counselors, a librarian, and a full-time school nurse. A comprehensive paraprofessional and support staff assist these.
...Developing Individual Strengths...
The One to One Chromebook Initiative assigns each student his or her own Chromebook for use. The full year, level I and II foreign language classes, Algebra I, and full year electives in fine and technical arts in eighth grade are available for high school credits. This means that students who qualify and do the work in these classes will enter ninth grade having already earned one or more credits toward graduation.
Remediation is available to students who have not successfully completed the required state tests. Students requiring special services can attend classes to meet their needs in any areas and who need additional reinforcement in reading and math skills. Uplift classes help students fill educational gaps. English as a Second Language (ESL) classes prepare students with a non-English background for success in regular classrooms.
Gifted students receive differentiated instruction in both Resource and collaborative settings. An Alternative Learning Center (ALC) provides students with an opportunity to learn the self-discipline and social skills necessary to function appropriately in the classroom.
...Cultivating a Sense of Responsibility and Respect...
Clubs and after school activities offer the middle school child an opportunity to share with the community and to extend classroom learning. They also have a chance to begin practicing leadership skills as they serve as officers, committee chairs, and activity directors.
Clubs open to students at all grade levels include the SCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Drama Club, Crime Solvers, Recycling Club, Drawing Club, as well as other clubs associated with enrollment in specific courses. The interscholastic sports program includes girls and boys basketball, girls softball, boys baseball, football and cheerleading.
