Esteem Building

Tussing Elementary School has a number of programs to enhance student self-esteem. They include:

Student of the Week

Each student is recognized as the "Student of the Week". The student's name is announced, a picture is placed on the bulletin board and one day during the week they are treated to ice cream by the PTO.

Honor Roll

There are two Honor Rolls at Tussing Elementary, (1) A Honor Roll - the student has to have an "A" in all academic subjects and no "U's" (2) A/B Honor Roll - the student has to have all "A" or "B" in all academic subjects and no "U's". Those students achieving the "A" Honor Roll receive a letter of congratulations from the principal.

Citizenship

Every student has the opportunity to be recognized as a "Good Citizen" each six weeks. The student's name is listed in the showcase across from the office. Students who are recognized five of the six weeks, Kindergarten four, receive a certificate at the end of the school term.

Kiwanis Terrific Kids

Once a month teachers nominate a child from their class to receive the Terrific Kid award. To be a Terrific Kid a child must be Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Influential, Friendly, Impeccable and Caring. The Kiwanis Club comes to Tussing and presents the child from each class with a certificate, pencil, eraser, ruler, and bookmark and reads why the teacher feels the child is a Terrific Kid

600 Club

Those students who achieved a perfect 600 score on one or more of their SOL tests have their names posted in the main foyer. These students are also recognized at the end of year awards ceremonies.
